Thank you for your interest in supporting Austin Free-Net events. Here are upcoming events:
Digital Inclusion Week May 2017!
Celebrate Digital Inclusion Week, May 8-13, 2017! The week is an opportunity to raise awareness about digital inequities and nationwide efforts to close those gaps from California to the Carolinas. Throughout the week, organizations across the nation, including Austin Free-Net, will host digital inclusion events (i.e. trainings, device donation drives, etc.) and share digital stories that highlight specific inequities and the role digital inclusion providers play in meeting these needs.
“Digital Inclusion” refers to the activities necessary to ensure that all individuals and communities, including the most disadvantaged, have access to and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The use of ICTs has risen steadily over the last three decades, yet many American communities continue to face persistent barriers to adoption. As technologies evolve, we know that addressing digital inequities is more than a problem of access but one of greater social and economic inclusion.
Digital Inclusion Week is sponsored by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance with affiliates from California to Tennessee including Austin Free-Net.
What’s happening at Austin Free-Net! May 8-13
“I want to communicate with my son who lives in another state. I’m excited to learn how to use the computer for things other than games.”—Brenda
“At 60 years old, I need to learn computer skills to keep working. I can’t afford to retire. ”—Clifford
Why is digital inclusion important? Across the country our Digital Inclusion Week partners will share stories online from clients about the relevance of digital access and training. Learn more about the importance of digital equity from people whose lives have been changed through technology.
