Thanks to the extensive work of students from the University of Texas and Google’s Community Leadership Program, we now have an online Data Dashboard that shows viewers the impact we make every day, in real time. View the site Dashboard.
AFN had the opportunity to present two projects to the students this past school year that would directly benefit our operations and direct services. The first project was a data dashboard, which is an online tool that collects and presents data about AFN’s programs.
Seven students started work on AFN’s dash board project in September 2015. With major backgrounds ranging from computer science to marketing, the ambitious students worked together to solve the technology challenge. They also received professional mentoring from Google. Now, AFN has a tool that will help us tell our story and support our digital inclusion efforts.
AFN’s second Leadership project was helping support a broadband awareness campaign in the Spring of 2016. This outreach effort, completely student led, included outreach to faith groups, churches and community organizations to let them know about the importance of the Internet and the services that Austin Free-Net offers.
We want to again thank Google Fiber and the University of Texas students for helping AFN achieve our goals this year.
