Austin Free-Net was recently named Philanthropic Business of the Year by Austin Woman magazine at the annual Woman’s Way Awards on June 9. The event, which celebrates women in business in Central Texas, is the only awards ceremony for woman-owned and—led companies in the Austin area. Winners were selected over the course of three months, during which time a nine—person selection committee analyzed a record–‐setting 218 nominations.
Selection committee members included Austin business leaders Jan Ryan, Mellie Price, Shauna Martin, Emily Reagan, Ingrid Vanderveldt, Lynn Atchison, Nikki Graham, Keren Kang and Patricia Greene.
After much deliberation and debate, the committee narrowed the field down to36 Finalists before announcing the 12 winners at the award ceremony, held at One World Theatre.
“We are honored to receive an award that reflects Austin Free-Net’s commitment to breaking down digital barriers in the community,” Juanita Budd, Executive Director of AFN said. “We strongly believe that educated citizens are empowered, thriving, contributing citizens. Thanks to the continued support of donors and volunteers we can continue to make an impact in the community.”
