Respected business owner and community leader, Robena Jackson shared words of wisdom and encouragement during our Techno-Women class in July. Robena is the owner of Group Solutions RJW. Founded in 1992, the company has a history of successful community engagement on infrastructure projects involving diverse stakeholders representing community, business, and/or governmental interests. Robena encouraged the students who are pursuing a career in the IT industry to focus on their long term goals for their families as challenges come their way.
Austin Free-Net’s Techno-Women program launched in March 2016 with the goal of preparing low-income women with limited computer skills for the technology workforce. The curriculum included learning the functionality of computer software and hardware components, developing soft skills, and formal classroom training to receive a certification in CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals.
As of July the students completed over 128 hours of classroom instruction over 32 weeks. They attended class four hours per day, four days per week!
