With the reading of a proclamation from the Mayor’s office, Mayor Pro-Tem Kathie Tovo officially kicked off Digital Inclusion Day on Friday, May 13. It was an exciting day for digital inclusion. We want to again thank our, sponsor Google Fiber, event partners the City of Austin, Austin Community College, and Skillpoint Alliance and community vendors for making this inaugural event a huge success!  More than 200 people visited the Resource Fair at ACC Highland Campus and talked with 35 organizations.  Thanks to our sponsor, 14 people won a new smartphone or laptop computer in our raffle drawing.

During the event, AFN also participated in a live Twitter Town Hall meeting sponsored by the Nonprofit Technology Network, a national organization. The Twitter conversation was shown on a large screen in the exhibit area.  Tweets about the importance of public access and the cost of being offline came from organizations and individuals across the country.  At one point, #digitalinclusion was trending on Twitter.

We look forward to celebrating Digital Inclusion Day with you next year!
