According to Pew Internet & American Life Project’s December 2013 survey, 73% of online adults now use a social networking site of some kind. Facebook is the dominant social networking platform in the number of users, but a striking number of users are now diversifying onto other platforms. Some 42% of online adults now use multiple social networking sites.
Following the trend, many of our clients eagerly learn how to use Facebook to reconnect with family members. The training covers the basics of Facebook, including how to set up privacy settings, avoid scams, and interact throughout the social networking site. Aaron, a student at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, found his adult children through Facebook. Access to the social media site allowed Aaron to slowly re-establish a relationship with his family. In turn, this inspired Aaron to continue working on his goal of finding permanent employment and housing.
At Austin Free-Net, we are committed to teaching Austin’s residents the latest technology so that they support their families, become employed and live independent lives.
