Shawn, an unemployed Veteran, signed up for Austin Free-Net’s Getting It Done program at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) to learn basic computer skills and eventually find a job.
The first challenge he wanted to overcome was his slow keyboarding skills. For the past few months, Shawn has been visiting the free AFN computer lab and working independently on his typing speed and accuracy. Shawn has improved from 12wpm to 54wpm. He often says that seeing the gradual improvement in his new skill helps him keep focused. Now confident in his ability to type and navigate a computer, he is currently in the process of working on his resume. We know that Shawn will find success in the near future.
