Volunteer IT Support Keeps AFN Current

it-volunteersWe want to send out a big Thank You to our summer  IT volunteers,  Chen Cui and Elpido “Pete” Buantello. They were a tremendous help this summer ensuring that all 155 of our public site computers were upgraded and up to date.  Chen, a student from China, contacted us in June to share his technology expertise. He just graduated with a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Arizona State University and was staying in Austin with friends.  He had some free time before he started a new job with AMD in Boston.  For about a month, Chen provided an hour of one-to-one  computer tutoring with clients in addition to helping fix some dysfunctional computers.  Pete, a Marine Veteran and volunteer GED instructor, also wanted to share his tech knowledge with AFN.  When Pete contacted AFN in June, he had just completed a Network Security Certification course at New Horizons. With a background in Comp TIA Network and Linux certifications, Pete was also interested in gaining practical IT support experience.  A dedicated and busy community volunteer, Pete’s goal was to help a nonprofit in need and learn at the same time.

It takes many volunteer hands to help keep AFN running smoothly. Again we want to thank Pete, Chen and all of the volunteers for helping make this happen. If you would like to volunteer with AFN, fill out our volunteer application and get started.
