At the beginning of this month, two special volunteers joined the Austin Free-Net family. Joo Hee Ahn and Michael Bass are part of the Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA) program. VISTA was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 as a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty in America by building capacity and sustainability in the nonprofit sector. Currently, the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas manages a local VISTA program and has partnered with Austin Free-Net, as well as, thirteen other non-profits in central Texas.
VISTA members are highly-trained, full-time volunteers that commit to a year of service to an organization. Joo Hee, a graduate of Stanford University who has worked in the education and finance field, will be assisting with Fund Development. Michael will be working with our Volunteer Manager as a Community Outreach Specialist. A graduate of Hope College, Michael recently relocated to Austin from Grand Rapids, Michigan after completing International service work in Cambodia.
“We are excited to welcome and work with Michael and Joo Hee in the year ahead as we embark on new projects focused on our mission of digital inclusion,” said Juanita Budd, AFN Executive Director.
