Volunteer with Austin Free-Net
Help your community while helping Austin residents build the technology skills and confidence they need for everyday life.
Austin Free-Net serves adults 18 and older from all backgrounds and levels of technology experience. Many of the people we serve are job seekers and older adults. Volunteers may also work with people who are learning English, people with disabilities or mobility needs, people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, and people who are using a computer or smartphone for the first time.
Volunteers support community members with computers, smartphones, online services, job applications, digital skills, and more. Depending on the role, volunteers may work directly with clients, assist with classes, support our public computer lab, prepare devices for distribution, or help Austin Free-Net behind the scenes.
Spanish-speaking and bilingual volunteers are especially encouraged to apply.
What We Look For
You don't need to be a technology expert to make a difference. Depending on the volunteer role, we're looking for people who are patient, reliable, willing to learn, and comfortable helping others.
Patient & Respectful
Support adults who may be learning something for the first time or may need additional time and assistance.
Willing to Learn
You don't need to know every answer. Be willing to ask questions, research solutions, and learn.
Reliable
Show up consistently for your volunteer commitment and communicate with us when something comes up.
Focused on Teaching
Help clients learn and practice whenever possible instead of simply completing tasks for them.
Comfortable Helping Others
Work respectfully with adults from different backgrounds, abilities, life experiences, and technology skill levels.
Respectful of Privacy
Follow Austin Free-Net guidelines when helping clients with personal devices, accounts, forms, and information.
